Asteroid 2025 OL1 Passes Near Earth

NASA and ISRO have confirmed that Asteroid 2025 OL1, a space rock roughly 110 feet (33 meters) in diameter, safely passed Earth at a distance of 1.29 million kilometers — approximately 3.3 times the distance to the Moon. Traveling at an astonishing 16,900 mph, the asteroid posed no immediate danger but attracted global attention due to its size and relatively close proximity.

Astronomers and amateur stargazers tracked the asteroid using ground-based telescopes. Scientists emphasized the importance of monitoring near-Earth objects (NEOs) to enhance planetary defense strategies. This flyby was another reminder of Earth’s position in a dynamic and potentially hazardous cosmic neighborhood.
