Lasoda is a tree commonly found in the Indian subcontinent, China, and many other parts of the world. In Hindi, it is also known as Gondi or Nisora. The fruit is about the size of a betel nut. Unripe lasoda is used to prepare curries and pickles, while the ripe ones are sweet, containing a smooth, gum-like syrup that is considered highly nutritious and helps in healthy weight gain.
The lasoda tree is large with smooth leaves. In regions like South India, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, people sometimes use lasoda in place of betel leaves due to its similar taste. There are three to four varieties of this tree, with two main types known as Lameda and Lasoda. It is also commonly referred to as small and large lasoda. The wood of the lasoda tree is smooth and strong, used in making furniture planks and even gun handles, along with other useful items.
