Tragic Fire at Boarding School in Guyana Claims Lives of 19 Students



A devastating fire erupted in a boarding school dormitory located in Georgetown, Guyana, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 19 students, with several others sustaining injuries. The majority of the victims are girls, as confirmed by the authorities on Monday. President Irfan Ali expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "It is a terrible incident. It's sad. It is painful." The government is actively coordinating efforts to provide necessary treatment and support to the injured individuals.

The fire broke out around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday night in a dormitory building of a secondary school situated in Mahdia, a southwestern border town approximately 320 km away from the capital city of Georgetown. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and investigated. The government issued a statement expressing their condolences and promising a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

This heartbreaking incident has left the nation mourning the loss of young lives, and efforts are underway to extend support to the affected families and provide assistance in any way possible.
